The Barcode Scan App is a web-based app. This means the app works on many different devices including Android Barcode Scanners.
There are several ways to use the Barcode Scan App. When using the app on an Android device you have 2 options: the Android App or the Web App. Both variants are explained below.
Web App
The Barcode Scan App is web based. To use it on an Android Scanner you only need a recent web browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox. This makes the underlying operating system less important and allows you to use slightly older scanners as well. You can also set up the Web App so that an icon appears on your home screen.
Android App
The Android App of the Barcode Scan App can be downloaded from the Play Store. The functionality is the same as the Web App, but the Android App has better support for scanning barcodes with the webcam. If your Android device already has a physical scanner you can just as well use the Web App.
For the Android App it is more important to have a recent version of Android. The Android version of the Barcode Scan App is available on Android version 11 or newer (API version 30 or higher).
Purchasing a physical Android barcode scanner
An Android barcode scanner contains a physical barcode scanner. This scanner is designed to detect barcodes quickly. This makes scanning extremely fast, which benefits the efficiency of your logistics process.
When purchasing a physical Android barcode scanner there are a number of things to consider:
- Android version – Higher versions last longer and still receive security updates
- Screen size – How much information fits on the screen
- 2D Barcode scanner – This also scans more modern barcodes such as the QR code format.
- Also consider which accessories are useful such as a charging station, extra battery or pistol grip for easier operation.
You can use the app on any Android device, even if it does not have a built-in barcode scanner. You can then scan barcodes with the camera.
We support the following built-in barcode scanners among others:
- Zebra TC2x series, such as the Zebra TC21 and Zebra TC22
- Zebra TC5x series, such as the Zebra TC53
- Zebra TC7x series, such as the Zebra TC73
- Honeywell ScanPal EDA5S
- Newland Mobile Computers, such as the MT series (MT93, MT95)
For setting up the scanner it is important to end with an enter after scanning. The barcode is then immediately recognised by the Barcode Scan App and processed.
Do you have a different scanner that does not work directly? Let us know and we will be happy to help you configure the scanner manually.
