With the Barcode Scan App it is possible to scan barcodes using a wired USB scanner from your smartphone or tablet. This can be done by connecting a USB barcode scanner to your phone or tablet using an adapter cable.

A USB OTG (On The Go) adapter cable converts the micro USB port on your phone or tablet into a standard USB port to which you can connect a standard barcode scanner. NOTE: Your phone or tablet must support USB OTG. Be sure to check this in the specifications before purchasing.

The scanner is connected as a Human Interface Device (HID). This means the scanned barcodes are passed to the phone as keyboard input. Make sure the barcode scanner is configured so that after scanning a barcode it ends with an enter key (code 13). This ensures the scanned barcode is recognised by the Barcode Scan App and processed directly. Ending with an enter key is also known as a suffix.

Depending on your scanner type, you can configure the enter key as follows:

Decimal Hexadecimal Octal
Code Description
13150x0D\rCR (Carriage Return)
