By default the Barcode Scan App shows the lines of a sales order in the same order as in Exact Online. That is usually not the most convenient order to walk through your warehouse. With a walking route you decide the order in which the lines appear. There are two ways:

  • By storage location: the lines follow the order in which you pass the locations. You walk the shortest route through your warehouse and never have to walk back.
  • By item: you set a fixed order of items yourself. For example, pick the heavy items first so they go at the bottom of your cart, and then the fragile items that go on top.

Step 1: Choose the sorting

Go to Settings and open the Out section. At Order sales order lines by choose:

  • Sales order line: the order from Exact Online (default).
  • Item: your own item order.
  • Storage location: your walking route along the storage locations. This option only appears when the warehouse uses storage locations.

Click save. The choice applies to the warehouse you are currently working in.

Step 2a: Walking route along the storage locations

Under Set display order click Storage location. You see all storage locations of the warehouse. Drag the locations into the order in which you walk through the warehouse: the first location at the top, the last at the bottom. The Sort alphabetically buttons put the locations in name order in one go, which is handy if your location codes already follow the route (for example A-01, A-02, B-01).

When picking, every sales order line is sorted by the first location in your route where the item is in stock. If an item is stored in several locations, the location that comes first in your route counts. Lines without stock in a location are shown at the bottom.

Step 2b: A fixed item order

Under Set display order click Item. Drag the items into the order in which they should be picked. Put heavy or large items at the top and fragile or small items at the bottom, for example. The buttons also let you sort alphabetically or by unit in one go, after which you can fine-tune the order.

Good to know

  • Changes to the order are saved immediately; there is no need to click save.
  • Dragging works best on a PC. The order cannot be changed on a phone or scanner.
  • You set up the walking route per warehouse. Switch warehouse in the app to set the order of another warehouse too.
  • The sorting choice (step 1) applies per user. Let every order picker choose this setting, or set it for them.
  • When you add new items or locations in Exact Online, check now and then that they are in the right place in the order.

More picking settings can be found on the Settings page.
