When multiple items in Exact Online share the same barcode, the Barcode Scan App cannot automatically determine which item is intended when scanning. With the “Barcode duplicates” feature, you can easily find out which barcodes are assigned to multiple items.
How does it work?
The app automatically searches all items within your administration and displays an overview of barcodes linked to more than one item. For each duplicate barcode, the associated items are shown with their item code and description.
Packaging units
In addition to standard item barcodes, the app also checks the barcodes of packaging units. When a barcode of a packaging unit matches a standard item barcode, this is also shown as a duplicate. These duplicates are separately marked with the label “Packaging unit”.
Resolving duplicates
Click on an item in the overview to navigate to the product inventory. From there, you can open the master data of the item in Exact Online and adjust the barcode to make it unique.
Possible causes of duplicate barcodes:
- Items that accidentally received the same barcode during creation
- A generic barcode (such as an EAN code) assigned to multiple variants
- A packaging unit with the same barcode as the individual item
When no duplicates are found, the app displays a message that no duplicate barcodes have been detected.
